Extra Credit

Over the course of the semester, students frequently ask about "extra credit." For a variety of reasons, students sometimes don't perform up to their abilities and want a way to make up some points. There will be three extra credit options available in this class, each worth 5 points.

Extra Credit Option 1

Due Friday, June 6

One of the extra credit options is to participate in a research study being conducted in the Psychology Department. Many of these will be described in class; others are advertised on the bulletin boards in the Psychology Building. To receive extra credit for a research study, be sure to complete the participation voucher and have it signed by the researcher who conducts the study in which you participate. Extra copies of the voucher can be downloaded here. You can complete the study any time before the end of the semester. Hand in your voucher by June 6.

Extra Credit Option 2

Due Friday, June 6

Cartoonists often have an uncanny ability to capture simple human truths in humorous ways. For this assignment, scan the comics for an example of a social psychological phenomenon. Cut out the comic, and include a brief description of the social psychological phenomenon that you think is represented. You can use any social psychological phenomenon we have discussed this semester.

Your answer must be typed, double-spaced, and no longer than one page in length.

Extra Credit Option 3

Due Friday, June 6

The movie "12 Angry Men" was produced in 1957 and received considerable critical acclaim as an insightful glimpse into human behavior. The movie remains a classic in part because it captures so well many disturbing qualities of human judgment, interaction and decision making. We will view the movie in class on Thursday, June 5. Your assignment is to identify 10 instances of social psychological phenomena that we have discussed this semester.

By Friday morning you should hand in a list of the 10 examples that you found. Each example should include a brief description of the relevant behavior, dialogue, or interaction and an explanation of the phenomenon that you think is being exhibited. I'm quite familiar with the movie, so brief references are fine. Please type your examples.
