THE MR. & MRS. SPENCER T. OLIN FELLOWSHIP
FOR WOMEN
- A complete application for the Olin Fellowship consists of:
- the one-page information form;
- a curriculum vitae;
- an essay;
- three letters of recommendation;
- transcripts; and
- test scores, if your prospective program requires any.
If possible, please mail
all elements of the application together, at one time, in one envelope, to the Olin Fellowship Program, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Campus Box 1187, One Brookings Drive, Washington
University, St. Louis MO 63130-4862. Minimally, mail information form, c.v., and essay together.
The closing date for
receiving
your completed applications is February
1. Please mail your materials no later than January 25 and ask
your
referees and schools issuing transcripts to do the
same.
Please do not fax or email
materials to the Olin office.
- Your curriculum vitae should include at least the following
information: the names of all colleges and universities attended,
together with dates of attendance, fields of study, and degrees
received or expected; academic honors or recognitions; and other
activities (e.g., full-time, part-time, or summer
employment, travel, volunteer work) related to the achievement of your
academic and/or professional goals.
- Your essay should discuss your reasons for undertaking
advanced study in your chosen field, what you expect to derive personally from advanced
study, and what contributions to society you hope to make during the pursuit
of your career. Essays should be typed, double-spaced, and 750 -
1000 words in length.
- Letters of recommendation may be returned by the referees
to you (in
sealed
envelopes, signed across the back flap) for you to enclose with your
application. Or you may ask your referees to mail letters of
recommendation
directly to the Olin Fellowship program at the address above. Or, if
you
wish to use the same recommendations as those submitted with your
application for admission, you may enclose a note with your Olin
application asking us to obtain copies. If your recommendations are
likely to be narrowly focused, we suggest that you obtain
an additional letter that would give the Selection Committee a fuller
understanding of you and your vita.
- Transcripts from all the
colleges and universities you have
attended
may
be copies issued to you. Likewise, your test scores may
be copies of score reports issued to you. Or you may
enclose a note with your Olin application asking us to obtain copies of
transcripts and test scores
from your prospective program.
- Note to all applicants: do not send
additional material, such as artwork, music, papers, posters,
publications, etc.
This application is intended for use by the Olin Fellowship
Selection
Committee; it is not an application for admission to Washington
University.
If you have not yet received appropriate materials or information for
applying
for admission, please contact the administrative office of the school
in
which you wish to study.
