HELENE ABRAMS
Romance Languages and Literatures

As Administrative Assistant, Helene is indispensable to the undergraduate and graduate programs in the Romance Languages and Literatures department. She recognizes the values of working within a culturally diverse environment and shows great initiative in anticipating departmental and individual needs of faculty, students and other staff members.


MARILYN BROUGHTON
Education

Marilyn has the ability to multi-task on a whole new level. She is a first-rate project manager that makes the Department of Education a smooth running unit. The faculty can count on her time and time again for the day-to-day tasks and the not so ordinary responsibilities. One recent example of Marilyn's ability to adjust to the extraordinary, was when the department received their recent $10M grant from the NSF to form the Center for Inquiry in Science Teaching and Learning, Marilyn dug in and created new organizational structures and she exhibited the work ethic of a colleague that shared the vision of the expansion.


ELIZABETH FYFE
Germanic Languages and Literatures

Liz is committed to her job and she is interested in what makes an office run smoothly. Liz has been with the German Department since 1987 and over the past 17 years she has streamlined the departmental procedures, consistently looked out for the student's best interests, and she is the point person for all the departments foreign visitors, from exchange students to guest professors. Liz is a consummate professional and unanimously respected in the department.


RICH HEUERMANN
Earth and Planetary Sciences

As Administrative Officer of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences for over twenty years, Rich has maintained a high level of dedication and service to the department, the faculty, the staff and the students. Rich is responsible for the total functioning of the department from personnel issues to approving all transactions that are posted to our payroll system and the University's financial information system. If some demand arises that needs to be taken care of quickly, the faculty, staff and students know they can call on Rich to make sure that the demand is met appropriately. It is Rich's activities and dedication that go beyond the job description that are his most important contributions to the
Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences and the University.


TONI LOOMIS
International and Area Studies

Toni Loomis has established herself as a crucial member of the
International and Area Studies office. She maintains an active communication with International and Area Studies majors and faculty, alerting them to important events, fellowship and internship opportunities and program deadlines. She is the caretaker of the first-year students in the International Leadership Program, welcoming them and directing them from the moment they arrive on campus. Parents and students alike know they will find a friendly and prompt response from Toni to their concerns and questions as they make the transition to college. One highlight of Toni's responsibilities is her management of the Fulbright grant process. Our students' success in this competition is largely due to Toni's efforts.


PHYLLIS MARLO
Chemistry

In addition to her financial management responsibilities as the Grants and Accounts Specialist in the Department of Chemistry, Phyllis has cheerfully accepted the diverse responsibilities in connection with foreign visiting scholars and postdoctorals. She is a joy to work with, extremely qualifed and she shows an exceptional level of commitment and initiative. Phyllis is clearly committed to the University, she has often served as a commencement marshal and has assisted during the presidential debates.


DOROTHY NEGRI
English

Being the receptionist and the administrative secretary to the Department of English, Dorothy is the first person people greet when they stroll into the department. Her continuous smile, gentle and kind words, and respect she shows for those she meets gives pride to the Department. Faculty and students turn to her first with questions, problems and needed advice. Dorothy combines intelligence and resourcefulness with seemingly inexhaustible reserves of warmth.


RAYE RIGGINS
African and Afro-American Studies

Raye's ability and commitment have been essential to the success of the African and Afro-American Studies program. Raye goes out of her way to assist students and the faculty that walk through the door. She remains incredibly good-natured in demanding situations and is always attuned to the smallest of details. With 15 years of service in the department, Raye is best known for her hard work, patience, great skill and efficiency.


HANNELORE SPENCE
Germanic Languages and Literatures

Since Hanne accepted a staff position in the German Department in the early 80's her position has evolved significantly as a result of the creativity, talent, and special qualifications that she has brought to her work and her ability to address the changing needs of the department. Hanne is responsible for the preparation of the annual annotated bibliography for the Max Kade Center for Contemporary German Literature
which is distributed in hard copy to libraries and scholars and also posted online. Hanne has maintained files of book reviews of contemporary authors, files that not only prove invaluable to the department but also to scholars visiting the collection.


FRANCES THUET
Biology

As Computer Systems Manager for the Department of Biology, Frances oversees a network spanning six buildings and comprised of six servers, a teaching computer classroom, a departmental computer room, and over three hundred computers supporting approximately two hundred and seventy five end users involved in the teaching and research missions of the University. Complicating the picture is the need to keep a wide variety of operating systems all talking to one another in a seamless fashion. Frances performs this extraordinary task almost flawlessly - and always with a smile and willingness to help no matter the request.


ADELE TUCHLER
African and Afro-American Studies

Beyond Adele's normal duties of making the office run smoothly, she makes a substantial intellectual contribution to the program by playing an active role in running the speakers series, mentoring majors, and developing course content. She has a deep personal commitment to the Program and the University. Adele deserves a great deal of credit for keeping African and Afro-American Studies well integrated into the intellectual and social life of campus.


LORI TURNER
Film and Media Studies

While she does exceptional work in handling program announcements, correspondence, accounting, and assistance in course preparation, it is Lori's willingness to do those additional duties specific to the Film and Media Studies program that place Lori on top. Lori works very hard at coordinating and brokering sharing arrangements with all the students in
the production classes. The students involved are treated fairly, and given equal access to the equipment because of Lori's efficiency and thoughtfulness. Her ability to work with other programs and to find useful solutions for all those involved make Lori an invaluable member of the program.


DEAN'S AWARD
SUE HOSACK
Office of Student Records

In overseeing the academic records and course registration for all
students, Sue interacts constantly with Arts & Sciences students, faculty, and staff. She is widely recognized for her support, service and commitment to the academic enterprise. She helps direct the priorities for the ongoing development of the University's Student Information System
more widely known by students, faculty, and staff as WebStac and Webfac. Recent improvements Sue has directed include a redesign of the University's transcript, the official academic record of each student, to better array the courses taken and grades received. All of Arts & benefits greatly from having Sue Hosack's leadership in this important area that is so fundamental to what we are all about.
