| Hi. I'm Alfred Yu, a third year graduate student in the Psychology department at Washington University in St. Louis. I'm working with Dr. Jeff Zacks in the Dynamic Cognition Lab. I'm interested in how people mentally represent spaces and objects. I'm also interested in how our typical interactions with objects and the environment can shape our mental representations of space. I am currently investigating how people transform mental images when those images represent human beings, other animals, or inanimate objects. I am also investigating whether humans have a specialized ability to imagine things from a different perspective, and if so, how this ability interacts with perceptual processes. As part of my graduate education, I am participating in the interdisciplinary Cognitive, Computational, and Systems Neuroscience (CCSN) training pathway. I'm receiving funding from the Department of Defense's Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) scholarship-for-service program. I've been assigned to work for the U.S. Army Research Laboratory's Human Research and Engineering Directorate during summers and after I graduate. My curriculum vitae | ![]() |
