Our faculty, like our students, come from a wide variety of disciplines and all have appointments in a traditional department. Their work for American Culture Studies is both to represent the methods and issues of their specific field of scholarship and to participate in a larger multidisciplinary discussion.
We depend upon their departmentally based courses to provide the range of academic experience we require of our AmCS majors (courses in at least three departments other than that of their first major) and upon their participation in multidisciplinary courses or team-taught courses. In this way we are able to maintain the methodological rigor of the participating disciplines in a multidisciplinary setting and simultaneously to illustrate the collaborative spirit our program emphasizes. |
