Summer 2006: Images from Anthropology Majors

Travelling in northern Africa, Jake Fisher photographed this street performer in Marrakech, Morocco. Lisa Pelcovits studied photography in Wash U's study abroad program in Florence. This image of street musicians was taken in Riomaggiore, one of the 5 towns of Cinque Terre.

 

While conducting research at La Suerte Biological Field Station, in Limon, Costa Rica, Denise Umpierrez photographed this image of deforestation (left). The monkey (right) is a Cebus capucinus.

 

Emily Hawkins worked with students in a rural school in Kalleda village, Warangal District, Andhra Pradesh, India. A theater producer in the US, she organized a production of Peter Pan which was open to the entire community (left). She also held photography workshops for the young photobloggers in the Kalleda Photo Project (right).

 

Danielle Matilsky worked with an infant emergency nutrition program in Malawi. On the left she feeds a young girl with a therapeutic food developed by the Wash. U. Medical School pediatrician who heads the project. On the right she poses with a group of happy kids.

 

Julie Serot worked in a baboon sanctuary in Phalabowra (near Kruger National Park), South Africa, where she photographed this infant.

 

Rachel Kalman took this photo at El Zota Biological Field Station in Costa Rica.
Jamie Thomas spent the summer in Zanzibar (where she took this wonderful image of feet on the beach) and Tanzania (where she photographed this Maasai family).
