Three farmers commit suicide

CHITRADURGA OCT. 2. Three debt-ridden farmers reportedly committed suicide in Chitradurga district on Thursday. They have been identified as Kadappa (60), Rangaswamy (22) and Jayamma (55).

It is learnt that Kadappa, from Annehalu village in Chitradurga district, had repaid the loan he had availed of from a bank by borrowing money from his relatives. He hoped that after repaying the loan, the bank would allow him to take a new loan of Rs. 1 lakh. But although he repaid the loan, the bank reportedly informed him that it could not consider his request for another loan. Kadappa, who was dejected, consumed poison on Wednesday and died in his fields, according to police sources.

Rangaswamy of Abbinahole in Hiriyur taluk reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in his fields, and Jayamma of Talya village in Holalkere taluk set herself on fire in her house.
