Interviews

Strictly speaking, only one of the four figures here took part in what was called an interview: Emily Apter. Orhan Pamuk took part in a panel discussion with an audience, Paul Muldoon hosted a seminar discussion, and Bruno Latour sat down to lunch for a conversation. But—interviews or not—all these conversations explore the necessary questions of how literary and linguistic things work. Muldoon considers how to build and be a part of the long poem. Apter works to define just how the literatures of many languages negotiate their differences. Latour tangles with the nuances of semiotic theory. Not least among them, Orhan Pamuk contemplates everything from his use of names to his method of managing the multiple voices in his novels. In the coming year, we expect to publish equally engaging conversations with Haun Saussy and Joyce Carol Oates.
