Submissions
Fiction, Poetry, and Essays: The editors invite submission of previously-unpublished fiction, poetry, and essays. We will consider republishing some works, but please query before sending any material of that kind.
For fiction, we generally look for individual works up to 10,000 words in length. Please double space.
For poetry, groups of 3-7 individual poems are fine.
For essays, the editors welcome submissions of literary, art, film, or cultural criticism, as well as book reviews and creative non-fiction. Essays needn't focus on figures featured in Arch's poetry, fiction, translation, or interview sections, though these suggest the wide variety of essay topics that the journal can accommodate. For essays that fall outside of the critical spectrum, please query before submitting. As with fiction, please double space. All references should be listed as endnotes, following the MLA Style Guide for reference format. Please be sure to number the manuscript pages.
Translations: The editors also invite the submission of translations of works up to 10,000 words in length. All selected translations will appear online in a dual language format if possible, so submissions should include the original. Please bear in mind that we are limited in terms of the number of languages our editors can work with, so a query letter is an important part of the process.
Other Notes: It is the author's responsibility to request permission, if required, for the use of any unpublished manuscript, translation, image, sound file, or movie.
Any images or photographs that accompany work should be incorporated into your submitted work and also emailed as separate files. Image resolution should be at least 72 dpi. If your work is accepted, we may request a paper version.
Please note that we do not accept work from current employees, students, or faculty of Washington University in St. Louis.
