| Fields: 20th century Art, Theory, Film, Photography, Exhibitions, and Gender Studies Professor DeRoo received her Ph. D. in art history from the University of Chicago in 2000. Her interests are interdisciplinary, and her courses include modern and contemporary art; photography and film; theory and criticism; artists' exhibition practices; and gender studies. Her current book project examines dramatic changes in French art and museums following the protests of May 1968 and focuses on the work of Christian Boltanski and Annette Messager. She is also researching feminist art of the 1970s, and co-chaired a panel on this theme at the 2002 College Art Association National Conference. In 2001 and 2002, she co-chaired two international conferences "Reconstruction, Consumption, and Contestation" and "Transatlantic Exchanges" in Vancouver, Canada and Paris, France, with Professors Jill Carrick and Serge Guilbaut. Both conferences brought together world-renowned scholars researching art in France after World War II. Professor DeRoo's grants include a Killam postdoctoral fellowship, a Fulbright Fellowship for research in France, an award from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and a Rhoades Foundation Fellowship through which she curated the “Beyond the Photographic Frame” exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago.
