Admission to the English Language Programs

There are two types of admissions to the English Language Programs (ELP).

1) The first type is the admission of students from abroad. Those students must either be admitted into a department in Washington University or obtain an I-20 from the English Language Programs. The English Language Programs only give an I-20 for the summer intensive program (June-August). To issue an I-20 an institution must offer full-time study, and in the summer the English Language Program offers full-time study in English language classes.

However, in the fall semester (late August-December) and in the spring semester, (January-May), the English Language Programs offer only support classes for matriculated students or community members. An I-20 is not issued from the ELP to students for study in the fall or spring semesters.

2) The second type of admission to the English Language Programs involves students who have been accepted into the university already or students who are living in the St. Louis area. These students have an I-20 from either their departments or places of employment.
