Fall 2009 Testing Schedule
Incoming undergraduate students: See the Writing 1 web site for information about the Washington University Writing Placement Exam.
Incoming graduate students: To ensure your success during your academic career at WUSTL, your department/school may have requested that you take one or more of the English language proficiency exams listed below. You should have received a letter with your visa documents indicating which exam(s), if any, your school/department requires you to take. The exams are designed to assess your English language proficiency and to determine whether you need further English language instruction while at WUSTL in order to fully benefit from your academic program. Your department/school may require you to follow any ELP course recommendations that result from your performance on the exam(s).
Graduate Composition Exam
Sign up online for one two-hour session on one of the following dates:
Fri., August 7, 1-3 p.m.
Fri., August 14, 1-3 p.m.
Mon., August 17, 6-8 p.m.
Tues., August 18, 1-3 p.m.
Thurs., August 20, 6-8 p.m.
Locations for the Composition Exam have not yet been finalized. The locations will be posted on this page when the information becomes available, and students who have signed up for the Composition Exam will be notified about the location of the exam by e-mail.
The graduate composition exam is a two-hour written exam. For more information about the Composition Exam, see the ELP’s description of the exam. Please bring one form of photo identification (e.g. passport or driver's license) to the exam and be prepared to present it to the exam proctor(s).'
Graduate Listening & Speaking Exam
Sign up online for one 20-minute time slot on one of the following dates:
August 3-17: MW 12-1 p.m., TuTh 4-5 p.m.
Tues., August 18, 3-6 p.m.
Wed., August 19, 12-1 p.m.
Thurs., August 20, 4-5 p.m.
All Listening & Speaking Exams except those on August 18 will take place at the OISS/ELP offices. To take your exam, please report to the OISS front desk (Stix International House, Room 100) a few minutes before your scheduled exam time. Students who sign up to take the test on August 18 will be notified about the location of the exam by e-mail and should report to that location a few minutes before the scheduled exam time

Please plan on taking your required exams as soon as possible after your arrival in St. Louis so that if ELP coursework is recommended for you, you can speak with your advisor about fitting that coursework into your schedule, and get answers to any questions that you have about ELP course recommendations.

Institutional TOEFL
Please note that the Institutional TOEFL will not be offered at WUSTL. If a student does not have a TOEFL score, he/she should take the ELP proficiency exams or take the TOEFL locally. See the TOEFL web site to find a testing center.
