I had the rare pleasure of visiting and conducting anthropological fieldwork in Nubri during five visits (1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2005). Although my research has since shifted elsewhere, Nubri always maintains a special place in my heart as the place where I undertook a "rite of passage" as an anthropologist.
