Graduate Program

Teaching

Our graduate teaching program provides students with preparation before teaching begins, as well as mentoring throughout. Each student participates in a pre-semester workshop and the Seminar in the Teaching of German (German 505), which is designed to introduce the basic theories of language pedagogy and tools for the teaching of German. To aid students in the acquisition and improvement of teaching skills, the director of undergraduate studies and members of the faculty assists them and consults with them regularly. The department has developed an innovative teacher training program in which graduate students participate in teaching courses in language, literature, and culture at all levels. In keeping with our interdisciplinary focus, with the permission of the German department and the outside department, graduate students may also have the opportunity to teach in other departments.

For more information about our pedagogy program for graduate students, please contact Stephan Schindler or Lutz Koepnick.
