The Humanities Digital Workshop is a collection of resources (software, computers, classrooms, scanners, etc.) available to members of Arts & Sciences. Most of the resources do not have to be reserved in advance; however, due to increasing popularity, the resources may be in high demand at certain times of the year (such as at the end of the year). Resources which may be of interest to German students and teaching assistants are listed below.
The HDW Lab in Eads 007 contains computers with various types of software. For a list, click on the individual station or the software list.
Certain computers in the HDW Lab (i.e., HDW Stations 5, 6, and 7) are equipped with iMovie, which students may use to create movies should their classes require them. (Final Cut Pro is also available for more advanced users.) Equipment associated with these computers has the capability to transfer recordings made on the department video recorder (which uses mini-VHS tapes) to DVD. Note to teaching assistants: Please see the TA Handbook for instructions.
Eads 008a, 13, and 14 are reservable classrooms with computers at every station. To reserve a room, find its entry in the classroom list and click the "Reserve" link located at the top right of the entry. Eads 13 contains Macintosh computers; Eads 14 and Eads 008a contain PCs (this is a recent change, as of last summer; 008a used to be a Mac classroom). (Note: Checking the calendar before submitting a reservation can simplify the reservation process. Dates without underlines do not have current reservations; underlined dates have reservations which you will want to check.)
There are German resources available in the Eads 007 Media Library, such as foreign language films and language lab software. A description can be found by clicking the Media Library link on the Services page. To find specific resources, search the catalog.
A sound-proof booth and audio-editing software are available at station 4 for creating digital audio recordings.
Many varieties of scanners are available, including large-format, slide, film, and scanners with automatic sheet-feeders for scanning many sheets at a time. (Note: They do not have scanners which scan both sides at once.)
