HOW TO APPLY
Selection Process
When you are admitted to the freshman class at Washington University, you will receive “Getting Started” and “Registration Part I: Special Opportunities for First-Year Student,” information booklets about applying for special first-year programs -- including the International Leadership Program.
Participants will be chosen from applicants who demonstrate high potential and motivation for international leadership positions, based on their high school records, including extracurricular activities. Applicants who are interested in the program must complete and submit an essay with their application. In the past there has at times been a problem with the ILP applications submitted on-line. If you are unsure as to whether your application has been received, please feel free to contact ILP coordinator Toni Loomis to confirm.
Essay
For the ILP application we ask students to write a 500 word essay exploring their interest and commitment to international studies in addition to what leadership qualities they think they would bring to Washington University’s community. We encourage students to speak about international issues they are passionate about, their own international experiences and/or what they hope to get out of this program.
Pre-Orientation
Once admitted into the ILP, students will receive further information on our pre-orientation program which takes place the day before general freshman orientation. If admitted, please plan on arriving on campus a day prior to general freshman move-in date.
