FALL INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Each Fall Semester, International Leadership Program scholars put on a series of events focused on an international issue for the Washington University and St. Louis communities.  At the beginning of the semester, students put together a list of current issues that they feel are being under or misrepresented by our government and our media.  Students then “pitch” these issues to their classmates and through a class discussion they vote on a topic upon which they would like to build an educational event series and awareness campaign.

Through the course of the Fall semester, ILP students will break into different committees that will be responsible for inviting expert speakers, planning supplemental events, networking with on and off-campus organizations, publicizing these events and providing contextual information to the chosen international issue.  All of this work culminates in a multi-media, interdisciplinary event series that is generally held in the middle of November.

In the past, Fall International Awareness Projects have centered around themes ranging from the Chechen-Russo war, US/Saudi Arabian relations, and China’s rapid rise in economic and geopolitical influence.
