My participation in the International Leadership Program my freshman year was an important experience for me. I particularly enjoyed the small class-sizes and the rewarding course work. The seminar gave me a comprehensive introduction to different possibilities for a future career or work in the field of international relations, and I gained invaluable experience in organizing international awareness and action events. I gained an understanding of both the logistical and more substantive aspects of grassroots organizing. My participation in the program opened doors for me to take leadership roles in students groups, in my home town, and abroad. As a freshman, it was also very helpful to begin college with a structured group of peers with similar interests. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to participate in ILP, and I encourage incoming freshmen to apply.
