OVERVIEW
The International Leadership Program provides a foundation in international and area studies, deepening your global awareness and helping to prepare you for our interconnected world. This program is designed to broaden possibilities for all majors and pre-professional tracks, as well as to fulfill a portion of your distribution requirements.
We live in a rapidly changing world in which international travel, and global exchange and education are becoming ever more important. As one of tomorrow’s leaders, you need sensitivity to issues of diversity and global interdependence. This one-year program is designed to help you develop the skills and attitudes needed to thrive in the globalized world.
In your first-year courses, you explore key approaches within international studies to understanding the world system. Your schedule also allows you to start or continue your study of a foreign language, and to explore diverse courses across the broader curriculum.
Outside of the classroom, you will be given the opportunities to attend internationally themed events in the St. Louis community and to create your own internationally-focused events on Washington University’s campus. Through ILP you will be challenged to consider yourself a global citizen with the responsibility of fostering international awareness in your local community.
