SPEAKER SERIES
Speaker Series
In addition to the expert speakers that the International & Area Studies Program brings in for their general event series, International Leadership Scholars have a chance to bring in expert speakers specifically for their international interests.
Seminar
Once ILP scholars are chosen, they will be contacted by our program and requested to articulate three areas of international interest. Our office compiles these interests and then builds a speaker series during the ILP seminar based on these interests. For example, in the past we brought in speakers to address the Israeli-Lebanese conflict, the humanitarian crisis in Darfur and the global AIDS pandemic.
Leadership Projects
During the Fall and Spring semesters ILP scholars will have a chance to develop their own forums and events based around international topics of their choice. The scholars will then be able to work with an International & Area Studies Program budget to bring in expert speakers of their choice to address the campus and St. Louis community. In the past, students have brought in speakers at the head of their fields to discuss issues ranging from child soldiers in Colombia to the Chechen-Russo war to U.S. relations with Saudi Arabia.
Special Access to Int’l & Area Studies Program Guest Speakers
When the International & Area Studies Program brings in guest speakers for their general programming, ILP scholars get priority in attending specialized meetings with these guests. In some cases, ILP scholars are chosen to give campus tours with these guests or join them for welcome reception and meals.
