Requirements for the Major

The Linguistics Major requirements addressed in this table are as follows.

Distributional Requirements

There are 5 distributional areas. No single class can count toward more than one of these areas. In [square brackets] are given the tags that appear in the Requirements column of the above table for courses that apply toward these requirements.

Unit Requirements

Majors must take at least 30 units of Linguistics, of which at least 18 units must be in upper-level courses (those numbered 300 or higher). Units may be drawn from any course marked [Ling], and any may simultaneously be applied toward one (but not more) of the distributional requirements.

Note in particular that not all courses listed in the course listings or bulletin under Linguistics apply to the Lignuistics major, and several courses listed elsewhere do apply.
