WU Credits
Students can expect to earn 12-15 units of WU credit depending on course selection.
Location
Beijing, China
Based in one of China's most cosmopolitan cities and the home of "standard" Mandarin, CET's Beijing program is an ideal location in which to study Chinese language and culture. The city offers students numerous outlets--from traditional "hutong" neighborhoods and historical sites like the Summer Palace, to contemporary shopping arenas, artist enclaves and sporting events.
The program is based at the western branch campus of Beijing Institute of Education (BIE). Centrally located near the Beijing Zoo in the Xicheng District, BIE is a small college offering degree programs in education.
Housing
Beijing Chinese Language program students may choose to live either in a double room with a Chinese student or in a single room. Single rooms, a few of which include private bathrooms, are limited in number and are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. All rooms are simple but comfortable.
Student Life
The program arranges for students a myriad of activities and excursions in and around Beijing. Most excursions allow students to venture to a location they could not visit on their own, such as a rural village or neighborhood committee meeting. In some cases, class work is directly related to outings and students are required to complete assignments during the activity. Field trips and extracurricular classes are also offered.
On-Site Support
CET has a full-time staff in Beijing to oversee the program. The resident director oversees student life, responds to student emergencies and helps students resolve the kinds of problems that might otherwise distract them from their classes.
