WU with Sweet Briar College Junior Year in France at the University of Paris
Areas of Study
The Junior Year in France program gives students the opportunity to take courses in all Liberal Arts disciplines through the curriculum offered exclusively for program participants and the curriculum of the University of Paris. Students should consult with relevant WU academic departments for guidance on suitability for WU students. Full year and Spring semester students may choose to
do a for-credit internship during their time abroad in lieu of one course.
| Term | Dates | Application Deadline |
| Fall | late August - mid December | February 1 |
| Spring | early January - late May | May 1 |
| Academic Year | late August - late May | February 1 |
Eligibility
Students must have completed French 307D, 308D, 318D and at least one literary survey class (French 325C or 326C) in order to be eligible for the program. French 318 can substitute for 308. Students must have junior standing.
For spring semester applicants, 3.5 GPA and French preparation above stated minimum requirements recommended since greater proficiency is extremely helpful in adapting to the fast-paced Spring semester. Please consult with Dr. Suelzer or Prof. Winn for details.
WU Credits
Generally, students will be awarded 15 WU credits for a semester of study abroad, and up to 33 WU credits for the academic year.
Location
Paris, France
The program is based in Paris, the capital city of France. Paris offers tremendous artistic and cultural resources to students. Fall entry students do a preparatory course in Tours before beginning their semester.
Housing
For the best results in language improvement and cultural advantages, students will be lodged in selected French homes in both Tours (single or double rooms) and Paris (all single rooms), where they can hear and speak French and be exposed to French life and customs. All Paris families are located in Paris proper, not in the suburbs, with the exception of Neuilly and Boulogne, two of the better districts easily accessible by metro or bus.
Student Life
Students are registered as regular students and do the same work as their French counterparts. They live in Paris and have full access to all the city has to offer. Students may also volunteer to serve as assistants to French teachers of English during the whole year or the second semester. The amount of time involved varies from 2 to 6 hours a week. Although these assistantships carry no academic credit, they offer good opportunities for direct contact with French schools.
On-Site Support
The Junior Year in France Program has an on-site director who, with her staff, support all elements of the student experience.
