WU's Pluralism, Politics and Religion Summer Program in Paris

For more information, join us for an information session on Monday, November 30, 5:15-6:15pm in Seigle 205!

Areas of Study
The program is intended to appeal to a wide variety of students, including, but not limited to, those in Anthropology, Architecture, Art History, Classics, English, French, History, Philosophy, PNP and Religious Studies.

Term Dates Application Deadline
Summer June 7 - July 8, 2010 February 15

Eligibility
Minimum 3.0 GPA. There is no language requirement for this program.

WU Credits
Students earn a total of six WU credits for taking two courses, “Politics and Religion in Contemporary Societies” (TH) and “Politics, Religion and Art in Antiquity: Representations in Paris” (LA) . These courses will both have Anthropology course numbers.

Location
The program is based in Paris. The classes will take place both in university facilities as well as throughout the whole of Paris, including substantial time in the Louvre.

Housing
Students will live in the oldest and most distinguished international student residence in Paris, the FIAP Jean-Monnet. FIAP will provide double rooms with private bathroom, and two meals (breakfast, dinner) daily.

Student Life
Students will experience the diversity of enduring and dynamic cultural practices and the people who live and negotiate them in daily expressions of pluralism. In Paris one can get on the Metro at an 18th century royal plaza and get off at a North African market or in a Chinese neighborhood. Through these courses and their excursions, this program will introduce students to the realities of globalization, the impact of transnational migration, the dramas of contemporary and ancient political struggles, and representations of religious traditions and public power as expressed in art and architecture.

The two classes, including excursions, will constitute 40 contact hours, leaving students with ample time to take their own excursions around Paris.

On-Site Support
Three Washington University on-site faculty members will participate in instruction and oversight of the program.

Application Process
You must submit a completed WU PPR Application.
