WU Credits

Location
Padova, Italy

Boston University’s program is located at the University of Padova in Padova, Italy. The historic university town, situated just west of Venice, lies in the northeastern Veneto region of Italy. Padova is the ideal place to study Italian in a fully-immersed setting both because of the unique crossroads of cultures and limited tourism. The University’s individual departments, called facoltâ, are dispersed throughout the city, and BU’s Center for Italian and European Studies is located within walking distance of the historic center of town and most departments.

Housing
Students live in Italian households. Households selected for program participants represent a wide range of incomes and situations, from a grandmother living alone to a couple living in the city to a suburban family with several young children.

Student Life
The program also includes excursions in and around the Veneto region and directed individual study projects, in which students explore an area of academic interest. Students may wish to take advantage of the many travel opportunities available by train, bus and air, whether in Italy or elsewhere in Europe. The gorgeous city of Venice lies only 20 miles east of Padova by train and is an enticing weekend outing for many students.

On-Site Support
Boston University’s Resident Director of the Padova Program will teach some of the courses offered at the CIES, as well as coordinate tours and excursions organized by the Program and oversee other elements of the program.
