WU’s Summer Program in Kenya

Areas of Study
The program is intended to accommodate individual student interest and may therefore appeal to students who major in African Studies, Anthropology, Environmental Studies, Education, Kiswahili, Women’s Studies and Political Science as well as students interested in service-learning.

Eligibility
3.0 GPA and prior volunteer experience recommended.

WU Credits
Students earn six WU credits for the Swahili language course and Kenyan Culture course. Community service opportunities are non-credit bearing.

Location
The program begins in Nairobi and ends in Mombasa.

Housing
Homestays and frequent travel.

Student Life
This program, offered by the African and African-American Studies program, is designed to enhance a student’s understanding of Kenyan society by carefully blending coursework, home-stays, community conservation projects through the Green Belt Movement, guest lectures, and memorable excursions.

On-Site Support
Dr. Mungai Mutonya will provide on-site support for the entire program.

WU Program Price
