Location
Cape Town, South Africa
Situated on the southern tip of Africa, Cape Town is a vibrant multicultural city with a population of 3.3 million. Between the ocean and Table Mountain, the city is located in a wonderful spot for those who love water sports, or want to stroll through the acclaimed Kirstenbosch botanical gardens. The city itself is quite cosmopolitan, with plenty of opportunities for shopping and cultural activities. Cape Town is the capital of the Western Cape Province, and the oldest city in South Africa.
Housing
Students live in either University of Cape Town apartment-style residence halls, apartments/houses close to campus or a homestay with a South African family. Two meals a day are included only for those students who stay with a family, otherwise students are responsible for their own food.
Student Life
Students are encouraged to participate in community service and involvement through homestays, CIEE and UCT community service programs, and independent study opportunities. For those who are interested, there are a wide range of course offerings in commerce, engineering, humanities, and science available. This program provides a wonderful opportunity to live and interact with and study alongside African students in a society in transition.
On-Site Support
CIEE Resident Advisor, Quinton Redcliffe, appointed by CIEE, supervises and administers the programs. The Resident Director also assists students with academic, administrative and day-to-day matters and is assisted on-site by Felicity Baker, Resident Coordinator and Angela Mias, Community Service Coordinator. An Academic Director has direct supervision over all academic aspects of the program.
