University of Edinburgh Parliamentary Internship Programme

Areas of Study
This program is open to Political Science students only.

Term Dates Application Deadline
Fall early September - mid December February 1
Spring early January - late May May 1

Eligibility
Enrollment in the program is highly selective. Students must be studying Political Science and be of at least junior standing with a 3.0 GPA. You will be contacted for an interview within a couple weeks of submitting your application.

WU Credits
15-16 units per semester

The first five weeks focus on three classes, four hours each week, on 'British Politics', 'Scottish Politics', and 'Scottish Society and Culture'. After that, the interns spend 10 weeks in Parliament, working full-time with an MSP and his/her staff. Students must also complete a research project supervised by a member of the Scottish Parliament and an academic from the Institute of Governance.

Location
Edinburgh, Scotland (UK)

Edinburgh is the Scottish capital and one of the most beautiful cities in northern Europe. The University of Edinburgh is more than 400 years old and an integral part of the city. Historic sites include Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile.

Housing
Interns are guaranteed an offer of accommodation by the University of Edinburgh. Along with other visiting students, Interns live in University owned premises, such as catered Halls of Residence, self-catering Residences, and University Flats (apartments). Most are located conveniently both to academic areas, for access to class rooms and libraries, and to the Parliament building.

Student Life
The internship is a serious academic program and working in the Parliament can be pretty intensive. That said, there certainly is time to partake of the rich diversity of leisure and cultural activities in Edinburgh. The university and the city offer students all of the intellectual, cultural, and recreational opportunities one would expect in European capitol city.

On-Site Support
Interns will be assigned a Director of Studies for academic support. The University of Edinburgh’s International Office will provide orientation and additional support services throughout the semester.
