Julie A. Jordan is a Lecturer and Graduate Advisor for the department’s Masters Program in Drama. She earned her Ph.D. in 2001 from the City University of New York – Graduate School and University Center. Her dissertation, “Risking the Real: Performance and Reality on the Contemporary American Stage,” addresses instances in late twentieth century theatre where the vexed intersection between theatre and reality lead to cultural controversy, including examinations of the work of playwright Anna Deavere Smith, choreographer Bill T. Jones, and performance artists Holly Hughes, Tim Miller, and Karen Finley.

Julie earned her M.A. in English and American Literature from Brown University and her B.A. in English from Washington University in St. Louis. She specializes in 19th and 20th century American theatre and drama, feminist drama, women playwrights, performance theory, and contemporary drama. Recent theatre studies seminars she has taught include courses on gender in contemporary performance, women and comedy, cross-cultural women playwrights, and research and methods for graduate students.
