David Marchant is a Senior Lecturer, on the full-time faculty of Washington University in St. Louis for eleven years, teaching all levels of modern dance technique, composition, and improvisation. He is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique and member of the American Society of Alexander Teachers, AmSAT. David also collaborates and performs frequently with his dance partner and fiancee, Holly Seitz. Together, they have formed Zo Motion Arts, creating and performing movement art works in natural settings, including pioneering tree-climbing as a dance/performance art form.
David holds a bachelors degree with Honors in Psychology and a Masters of Fine Arts, both from the University of Iowa . He was the first recipient of a prestigious two-year Iowa Arts Fellowship from 1991-1993. David was a company member with the Utah Repertory Dance Theater from 1989-1991. He has taught master classes and residencies at American Dance Festival, University of Iowa , University of Illinois , Stephens College and Winona State University in Minnesota, among others. His dances have been re-staged for Dance Repertory San Francisco , Suzanne Grace & Dancers, Chicago Academy of the Arts , and University of Iowa 's touring company. His choreography has been honored five times in encore performances at the American College Dance Festival, as well as the National Festival in 1996. David is also a photographer, scuba diver, glider pilot, rock climber and avid lover of nature.
