Stenner Essay Competition
Each fall semester the Department sponsors the Helen Stenner Memorial Essay Prize Competition, the winner of which receives a monetary prize. The competition is open to all undergraduate majors in the Department and is separate from the Stenner competition for graduate students. A notice advertising each year's prize competition is posted several months prior to the deadline for submission of papers. Details concerning the scope and subject of the essay, the deadline for submission, the prize, and the judging process are available from the departmental secretary.
Nishi Luthra Prize
Drs. Chaman and Adarsh Luthra established the Nishi Luthra Prize in Philosophy in memory of their daughter, Nishi, who was an undergraduate major in philosophy. This prize is awarded to an outstanding graduating philosophy major, determined by the department.
Steven Schwarzschild Prize
This award was founded in 1991 by Lily Schwarzschild in memory of Steven Schwarzschild, Professor of Philosophy and Jewish Studies at Washington University for twenty-four years. A monetary prize is awarded to a philosophy major biennially in even-numbered years. Juniors and Seniors are eligible for this prize. The recipient of the prize is determined by the Department and the prize is awarded at the end of the academic year.

Enquiry, Undergraduate Journals & Conferences
Undergraduate students have established an undergraduate philosophy journal at Washington University called Enquiry. To get involved, please contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies, who will put you in touch with the relevant students.
There are numerous other undergraduate journals, and national or regional conferences to which you can submit essays for publication or presentation. Current announcements are circulated by e-mail, but please contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies for latest announcements. The Department may be able to assist with conference expenses.
