Charles Anderson

Research Professor (Anatomy & Neurobiology, Biomedical Computing, Physics Department)
Primary research interests include modeling neuronal systems from the perspective of information processing, statistical inference, resource management and process control. A unified framework is emerging that is applicable to sensory and motor systems in vertebrates as well as invertebrates. The basic computational element is taken to be ensembles of neurons, which encode hypotheses about the state of the external world and possible actions to be taken. The research is carried out in collaboration with the experimental work in David Van Essen's laboratory as well as others in the Anatomy and Neurobiology
